PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT MEETING
TOPIC: “The future of package and cargo shipment tracking utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) sensing devices.”
Brian McGrane
We have Bar Codes and RFID for tracking shipments - What’s next?
Brian McGrane is going to provide us an overview and demonstration of some of the new technologies including cellular/GPS, Blue Tooth devices and IoT software tracking that add location temperature, vibration and light sensing to shipments and cargo tracking. This technolgoy can make your supply chain smarter, more efficient and more secure.
Brian McGrane was an early leader and innovator in Bar Code and RFID technology and now IoT sensing technologies. It was more than a few years ago when Brian started one of the early Bar Code system integration companies many people asked “what is the value of using a Bar Code in inventory management?” Now we all know the value of bar codes and how they have improved efficency and can be found in every part of our daily lives. Brian was recruited to join Sun Microsystems as head of their RFID Lab and training center in Longmont. One of the biggest accomplishments the lab achieved was training a well-known ski area the benefits and use of RFID technology which resulted in the use of RFID ski tags vs bar code tags. The ability of being able to read the tag through a jacket and not having to locate the bar code tag on a skier was a huge benefit in time and efficiency savings for the ski area.
Brian has over 25 years of supply chain expertise in auto ID technologies and inventory management middleware solutions with SAP and Oracle, Brian will share his knowledge of the new technology options that Inventory and Supply Chain Managers will have to choose between in the next few years.
