Topic:  OSHA Update & Safety Management System Basics

Speaker:  Ryan Hellman, President, Hellman & Associates, Inc.

OSHA……what are they up to and why should I care?  The hidden costs of compliance violations are about three times more costly than the direct costs associated with implementing an effective health and safety program. But even an inhouse environmental health and safety (EHS) program is no guarantee you can avoid large fines and business disruption.  In this session we will review the current OSHA enforcement agenda and summarize the key components of a safety management system.

Ryan Hellman is founder and President of Hellman & Associates, Inc. (H&A). Ryan has more than 30 years of EHS experience; including the past 25 years spent providing compliance partnerships to H&A clients through H&A’s ASSUREDCompliance® subscription service.

Ryan has experience in the development and management of world class EHS management systems, including OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and international management systems.  H&A achieved the OSHA VPP Star recognition for a mobile workforce in 2010 and recently achieved another three-year recognition.  Our leadership and staff service providers consistently work to extend our knowledge of EHS management to their clients by leading as an example.   Ryan, through H&A, has assisted companies in decreasing injury and illness rates by as much as 50%, achieving levels at, or below, the industry average in as few as nine months and in driving measurable organization safety management growth through safety-culture change and enhancement.  Ryan’s success implementing a new approach to safety that meets the needs of companies of all sizes has earned him respect as an entrepreneur and strategic thinker in safety culture development.

Ryan received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Environmental Health/Industrial Hygiene from Colorado State University
